Why the Resurrection Matters: Identity, Victory, and Eternal Security

 

Welcome back to my blog! Over the past few weeks, we have been tracing the marvelous timeline of our salvation—a divine story planned before time began that will culminate in Christ’s glorious return.

 

So far, we have examined how God chose us, convicted us through the Holy Spirit, drew us to Himself, and accomplished our complete redemption at the cross. Today, we take the next essential step in this journey: Christ’s glorious resurrection.

 

Why is the empty tomb so vital to our daily walk and eternal hope? Let us look to Scripture to see what the resurrection means for Christ—and what it means for us.

Why the Resurrection Changes Everything 

The resurrection stands at the absolute center of God’s promises and our Christian identity.

 

1. Regarding Jesus Christ

If Christ did not rise from the dead, He could not be God; His promises would be void, and He would possess no divine power. Without the resurrection, He could not have ascended to heaven, established the Church, interceded for us today, or promised to return and reign in eternity. The resurrection proves that Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be.

2. Regarding the Believer

The resurrection is the core of our spiritual transformation. In the New Testament epistles, this transformation is frequently described as spiritual baptism. When we become a Christian, we are identified (baptized, Greek, baptizo) with Christ’s gracious death and resurrection.

The moment you placed your trust in Christ, your old, sinful self died and was buried with Him. You were instantly raised to new life and spiritually seated with Him at the right hand of God the Father (Romans 6:2–12; Ephesians 2:4–7; Colossians 2:12–13).

Similar concepts in the epistles that are based on the resurrection are: 

• Regeneration (Titus 3:5)
• Being Born Again (John 3:5)
• Putting on the New Man (Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10)
• Christ in You, the Hope of Glory (Colossians 1:27)
• The Anointing of the Spirit (1 John 2:20, 27)
• The seed (1 John 3:9) 

6 Powerful Blessings Provided by the Resurrection 
 
Because you share in Christ's resurrection life, God has equipped you with everything necessary for spiritual victory:

• Power Over Sin: While every believer still struggles at times, you are no longer a slave to sin. As a new creation indwelt by the Holy Spirit, you possess the divine power to say "no" to temptation and live a victorious life.
• True Holiness: Through spiritual regeneration, God views you as holy, blameless, and clean in His sight (Hebrews 10:19–22). Without this new life, we would remain spiritually dead in our inherited fallen nature (1 Corinthians 15:17–19; Ephesians 2:3).
• Boldness in Prayer: Because you are a holy person in Christ, you can approach God's throne in prayer with complete confidence and without hindrance (Hebrews 10:20–23).
• Eternal Life: Just as Christ was raised, you have been raised to new, everlasting life that physical death cannot destroy.
• Eternal Security: Regeneration proves that your salvation is permanent. Scripture does not indicate that your new self can die and your old, dead self be re-resurrected—your transformation in Christ is absolute and irreversible!
• Freedom to Serve: Before salvation, we were spiritually dead and incapable of doing truly good works (Romans 3:10–12). Now, as a resurrected creation filled with the Holy Spirit, you are fully equipped to serve God according to His will (Romans 6:11–16).

Rest in Your New Identity

My friends, what incredible comfort we find in the truth of God’s Word! You are permanently transformed, identified with Christ, and securely seated with Him in heavenly places. You are liberated from the penalty of Adam’s fall and free to walk in the joy of His service.

What a magnificent salvation our God planned in eternity past and lovingly executed for His good pleasure (Ephesians 1:4–8).

Finding True Peace: Lessons from Scripture and Research

 

In a world filled with constant noise and personal trials, peace can feel like a fleeting shadow. Yet, for those who know God, personal peace is a beautiful fruit of the Holy Spirit that He desires for each of us to possess (Galatians 5:22).

 

But how do we practically experience it?

 

What the Research Shows: Faith and Well-Being

We decided to explore this question through a study conducted at Grace Community Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. We asked the adult congregation to complete a questionnaire regarding their personal well-being—including peace—and how closely they practiced their faith. Using Scripture as our guide, we considered individuals to be active in their faith if they: (1) Proclaimed faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice as a free gift of salvation; (2) Were secure in their salvation, knowing their eternity is held by God; (3) Frequently utilized the 5 Tools to Maturity: prayer, praise, faith, reaching out, and scripture study (Acts 2:42,47; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:23-26; 1 Peter 1:4-5; John 10:27-30).

The Result: On a scale of 0 to 6 (with 6 being the most peaceful), the congregation averaged an encouraging 4.2. More importantly, the data revealed a clear trend: Believers experienced significantly greater peace the more active they were in their Christian practice.

4 Reasons Why Active Faith Protects the Mind

While data shows us what happens, Scripture explains why. When we actively live out our faith, the Holy Spirit transforms our mindset through four distinct avenues:

• Proper Focus: Practicing our faith centers our minds on an Almighty God whose purposes are higher than our own, pulling us away from anxious or selfish thoughts.
• Prayer: Research consistently links prayer to better well-being^1-5. The adherence to the practice of Christianity provides for prayer to an accepting great high priest, Jesus Christ, who cares for our every need (Hebrews 4:14-16).
• Correct Thinking: The Bible provides the ultimate text of truth. By filling our minds with Scripture, we learn to view ourselves correctly and reject lies about God.
• Outward Vision: Scripture urges us to reach out and serve others. Shifting our attention to the needs of our community naturally minimizes our focus on our own anxieties (Community service and personal wellbeing).

How to Claim Your Peace Today

If your heart is restless, I encourage you to take two foundational steps today:

1. Secure Your Assurance: Be certain that your sins are freely forgiven through faith in Christ. Rest in the reality that God accepts you and your salvation cannot be lost. Read more about the gospel message here.
2. Practice the 5 Tools: Intentionally balance your life around prayer, praise, faith, outreach, and Scripture study. This builds the daily environment the Holy Spirit uses to cultivate supernatural peace. It takes time and daily commitment, but the blessings are beyond measure (Galatians 5:22-23). What the Scripture and Survey Data Reveal about How God Leads (Part 1)

 

How does God lead His people today, and why do so many Christians feel uncertain about it?

God's leading plays a vital role in the Christian life, yet many believers struggle to explain clearly how it works. This confusion often leads to uncertainty in decision-making, spiritual growth, and daily obedience.

 

To better understand how Christians perceive God's guidance, Teleios surveyed adolescents and millennials who are active in Christian Instagram communities.

Teleios collected 437 responses, primarily from believers under 35 years old (80%), with most participants from the United States (55%) and Europe (9%). Respondents were identified mainly as evangelical (71%) or social Christians (23%). You can view the full report in God and Leadership: How Does God Lead?

Survey’s Key Findings:

·      46% believe that God leads them continuously, moment by moment 

·      28% say God leads through the Holy Spirit, using knowledge of Scripture as they act in faith 

·      18% remain unsure about how God leads 

When asked about God's plan for their lives:

·      53% believe that God has a distinct plan He will carry out 

·      20% believe that God's plan depends on their obedience 

·      12% believe that Christians have the freedom to choose their path while living by faith 

Regarding how God leads:

·      58% say that it's through the Bible 

·      51% say through the Holy Spirit 

·      25% say through emotions 

When asked why they believe their view is correct:

·      30% rely on their feelings 

·      25% rely on their personal experience 

·      20% rely on the Scripture 

These results reveal a critical gap: many Christians base their understanding of God's leading more on feelings and experience than on the Bible.

 

What Does the Bible Say About How God Leads?

Christians must ground their beliefs and daily decisions in Scripture. So instead of relying on opinion or emotion, we should ask: What does the Bible teach about God's guidance?

The Bible identifies clear sources of God's leading in the church age:

1.     God Leads Through His Word (the Bible)

God uses one primary medium to guide believers: His Word. Scripture provides truth, direction, and clarity for every area of life.

 

2.     God Speaks Through Christ

Hebrews 1:2 teaches that God speaks through His Son in this present age. Unlike in earlier times, God no longer uses methods such as dreams, visions, or prophets to reveal new truths. Instead, Christ communicates God's will through Scripture.

 

3.     The Holy Spirit Guides Through Truth

The Holy Spirit leads believers by teaching and reminding them of Christ's truth (John 14:6, 16:13). He uses Scripture as the foundation for guidance and equips believers to live it out (Ephesians 6:17).

Why the Bible Is the Foundation of God's Leading

The Bible is not just helpful; it is authoritative. It provides the complete and reliable basis for understanding God's will.

Here's how God established this authority:

• God revealed truth through Christ (John 8:40-45; John 14:6).
• Christ taught this truth to the apostles (John 17:7-8).
• The Holy Spirit guided the apostles, especially Paul, to fully communicate this truth (2 Timothy 3:16).
• The apostles taught and preserved this truth, which became the written Scriptures(Titus 1:3; 1 Timothy 6:14; 2 Peter 3:2).

As a result, the Bible now serves as the complete revelation of God's guidance for believers today.

The survey shows that many believers desire God's leading but often misunderstand how He provides it. While feelings and experiences may influence decisions, they cannot replace the authority of Scripture. God leads clearly and consistently through His Word, with the Holy Spirit helping believers understand and apply it.

Christians do not need to guess how God leads. He has already provided clear direction through the Scripture.
